About Me
- The Piano Area Outreach Program
- The U of U Piano Area Outreach Program works with students in Salt Lake City's Title 1 schools (“Title 1” is a classification that describes low-income or “at risk” student populations). Our students range from 3rd-6th grades and our goal is to teach them the fundamentals of music. Our piano classes are part of each elementary's “After School Program” and enrolling in our classes is completely voluntary. The students have excelled in our piano labs by learning music at an unbelievable rate; they enjoy the curriculum, their achievements, and the instructors. Similarly the teachers adore the kids and are excited to be able to provide them with an opportunity that would otherwise be unavailable to them in their unfortunate economic situations. The positive influence our program has had on these students has been reflected in decreased truancy, reductions in behavioral problems such as graffiti and violent outbursts, as well as improvements in homework scores and grades- particularly in reading. We are proud of our program and every effort is being made to ensure its growth and success.
